Introduced in Paris, in 2005, by Pierre Hermé and Relais Desserts as “Jour du Macaron” (Macaron Day), the tradition arrived in the U.S. in NYC in 2009. Seattle’s Le Panier joined the celebration in 2012. On March 20, 2021, proceeds from the sale of Le Panier’s macarons and souvenirs will benefit the Pike Place Market Foundation’s community fund.
