* Lag BaOmer is a festive Jewish holiday between Passover and Shavuot, when a plague raged amongst the disciples of the great sage Rabbi Akiva. On Lag BaOmer the dying ceased. The name comes from the Hebrew letters lamed and gimel. The holiday also celebrates the great sage and mystic Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, author of Zohar, a foundational work of the Kabbala. Lag BaOmer is celebrated in different locations in different ways and may include bonfires, unity parades, picnics and barbecues, and other festivities.
